What is barre?

Our barre class is an efficient, effective total body workout that borrows elements from ballet, yoga, pilates, and sports conditioning to develop long, lean muscles, core strength, and improved posture and flexibility. Sculpt long, lean thighs, flat abs, toned arms, and a lifted butt while developing core strength, flexibility, and improved posture. Our classes are mindful, focusing on proper position and body alignment while connecting movement with breath.

What can I expect during my first class?

You can expect an athletically-paced, full body workout where you will be challenged to step out of your comfort zone. We will guide you through intense strengthening intervals followed by complementary stretches to increase muscle density and elasticity. To accommodate a variety of fitness levels, we’ll offer modifications to reduce the intensity of an exercise/stretch and options to increase the intensity. We keep everything moving during class, and don’t spend a lot of time setting up the different positions or transitioning between exercises — this can have you looking around a bit during your first few classes, but you’ll soon find your rhythm and move with the flow of class.

What should I wear?

Wear anything you feel comfortable moving and sweating in. Most students wear capri-length yoga pants or full-length leggings, but shorts are also fine. We recommend a fitted top so that your teacher can see your form a bit easier, but looser tops are also ok. Socks are required in the studio, and we recommend grip socks to keep you from sliding during certain positions. We sell these in the studio and most styles are $12.

Where can I park?

There is limited free street parking on Kamani, Pohukaina, and Ahui streets, between our studio and Ward Ave. There is 2-hour metered street parking on Pohukaina, Ewa (west) of Cooke St. There are also 2 parking garages near our studio: Halekauwila Place (665 Halekauwila, 5 minute walk) and District Parking Service (860 Halekauwila, 3 minute walk). After 5:30pm, parking is free along Cooke St. After 6:00pm, parking is free along Pohukaina St. and Ward Ave. Street parking is free all day Sundays and state holidays.
